PUSHING BACK THE FRONTIERS OF KNOWLEDGE
Research enhances the quality of our teaching and contributes to understanding and improving intercultural relations. HEICR recognizes that research plays an essential role in innovation and the development of higher education. Indeed, it is an important aspect of our mission, enabling us to contribute to the advancement of knowledge and respond to the social, economic and environmental challenges facing our world.
At HEICR, our students are encouraged to conduct research on a wide range of subjects related to communication and international relations, such as media, journalism, language studies, diplomacy, international affairs, cultural relations and interculturality.
HEICR offers a graduate program that enables students to develop their research skills throughout their academic career.
BACHELOR INTERNSHIP REPORT
In the Bachelor's program, students complete two compulsory internships, one in B2 and one in B3, followed by an internship report. These internships enable students to put their theoretical knowledge into practice in a real-life professional context, and to develop essential research and analysis skills.
MASTER'S THESIS
In the Master's program, students deepen their knowledge of research by preparing a research dissertation at the end of their Master 2. Students present their internship report or research dissertation at a one-hour oral presentation in the presence of a jury. The presentation will take place in public, offering a unique opportunity to discover the innovative academic work of our students.
Presented to a panel of expert judges, the thesis enables students to demonstrate their mastery of research concepts and methodologies, as well as their ability to conduct independent, rigorous research.
HEICR cultivates a dynamic and stimulating research environment, conducive to the blossoming of scientific vocations. Within this pedagogical framework of excellence, the PhD program enables students to pursue their research in a specific field, fostering their emancipation as independent researchers and contributing to the advancement of knowledge in their field of expertise.
PhD PRESENTATION
The PhD is conditional on the successful presentation of a research thesis after three years of study. To be eligible for presentation, students must have completed 100 ECTS, divided into 50 ECTS of coursework and 50 ECTS of seminars. A waiver for an additional year may be granted under certain conditions.
The PhD presentation is a major milestone in the student-researcher's academic career. It enables them to present their research work before an expert jury, made up of eminent researchers in their field of expertise. The student-researcher must present his or her methodology, results and conclusions clearly and concisely, demonstrating mastery of the subject and the ability to conduct independent, rigorous research.
The jury assesses the quality of the research presented and engages in an in-depth discussion with the student-researcher, to deepen their understanding of the work and identify the original contribution of the thesis. The PhD presentation is a crucial event for the student-researcher, who must demonstrate strong communication skills and a mastery of his or her subject.
The presentation generally takes the form of an oral presentation, followed by a discussion with the jury. During this discussion, the student-researcher must answer questions from the jury and justify his or her methodological choices and research conclusions.
DEROGATION
A derogation from the PhD presentation is an exceptional request to obtain the student-researcher's diploma without having to go through the oral presentation before the jury. This derogation may be granted in special situations, such as in the case of a student suffering from a serious illness or disability that would prevent him or her from taking part in a presentation in person.
Exemption from the presentation requirement may also be granted in cases where the student-researcher has already published the results of his/her research in internationally renowned scientific journals. In such cases, the student-researcher can justify that the results of his or her research have been sufficiently reviewed by the scientific community and that there is no need for a presentation.
However, it is important to note that derogation from the PhD presentation remains an exceptional measure and that HEIRC strictly evaluates this derogation procedure in order to guarantee the academic integrity of the PhD degree.
